Lake Powell trip, the good and the bad

Yep, we went to Lake Powell with 10 other couples for 5 great days. The good news is that we had a blast. We only knew 2 of the other couples (one was Cindy Kellis, one of Robbie's BYU roommates, and hubbie Kevin, and the Fishbecks who own the houseboat and who we'd met on previous trips).

Here are some pics of the event.

The first one is of the whole group in front of the challenging Sand Hill climb. The second photo is of those who went up the first time, (yes, Bill is sucking in his gut for the photo op), the third one is Bill's last dive before the bad one.

The last dive was on Monday the 22nd at about 12 noon. It was an easy dive but, upon entry Bill somehow "dislocated his shoulder"! Not good...30 min drive by boat to the marina, (thanks to the nice Kemptons for taking us), then some scary paramedics and an ambulance ride...and interesting Dr. (he asked about my inhaling rat feces and getting the Roda virus, then we told him to look at my shoulder and he realized he had the wrong room!).

Finally, it got re set with the help of some lovely drugs...Then back home to Alpine.

We will go again...just no more cliff diving for Bill!

Bill pulls off 5K 3rd place...

Yep, Bill can still run...and for the "geezer category" 50-99, he took 3rd place, with a moderate time of 23:30...Not great, not terrible...just okay enough in Cedar Hills in 2008 for a 3rd place medal!

Officer to Robbie: There's a subpoena out for your arrest!

True story:

Robbie is in California for the 4th with her parents. She gets a phone call from an 801 area code number, and a man says that he is Officer F. (we'll not use his full name as we don't want to get Robbie into any more trouble) from the Springville, Utah police.

He stated that they have been trying to deliver a subpoena for an assault charge on her daughter's boyfriend.

Robbie thinks that it's a prank, and basically blows the guy off even when he tells her that the court date is July 8th.

She calls us asking who did the prank. We know nothing about it, and ask for the number of the supposed Officer. She gives it to us. Carrie calls first and gets a guy who says that he's Officer F. She hangs up.

Juan then calls and gets the same guy...Juan explains that his mother in law is a bit freaked out and asks what the story is.

Evidently, it is a real police officer. He had called Robbie and asked 3x if she was Sheila. Robbie must not have heard that part, because she never denied it or commented on it.

So...we'll see if Robbie a.k.a. 'Sheila' has to go to court now or not!

(Moral of the story...listen carefully on your phone if the guy says he's a officer!)

Sunday Dinner May, 25

A tradition in our home at Sunday meal, is to go around the table and tell what you learned at church today. This was started when our children were small, (as we lived in the mission field)we heard some interesting stories!

We were able to add gospel doctrine and correct any misunderstandings....since then it has been a great time to be inspired and hear what other family members got out of the same meetings...we are often different. Some of the kids share a spiritual experience that happened that week, or in Matt's case a dream!

Since we are all so far apart now...I would like to start sharing on our blog on Sunday's what spiritual insight we gained this week. You can share something from Sunday meetings, or how you saw the 'The Hand of God In My Life' this week....A story, thought, something in nature, etc. Just like we do at the dinner table....this way I (MOM)can't go to long!

So here I go....
Relief Society BYU 106 Ward
" If you're not as close to God today as you were yesterday...who moved? "
Bishop Albrecht
Saw this sign at a memorial for fishermen who had died at sea...
"I am a follower of the sea-It is not something I do-It is who I am." He said he hoped when he died...his kids, grandkids would remember this one thing about him....
" I am a follower of Christ-It is not something I do- It is who I am."
I made a re-commitment to live my life better, that the same can be said of me.

Daniel's going to Sapporo, Japan for his LDS mission!

We're all very excited. The long awaited day of finding out where the Danster would go happened this past Sat. the 27th. His call came to his dorm at S.V.U. We were expecting Italy like his Daddy and sister Becca...but no...

Sapporo, Japan: The mission is called the "Frozen Chosen"...yes, it's a bit cold there. On the northern island of Japan (Hokkaido), it was the site for the 1972 Winter Olympics...

We're thinking that being born in Maine and having lived in Utah that they figured Dan-O could handle the cold...

He leaves on August 27th to go into the MTC (Missionary Training Center), in Provo, Utah. He will study the language and missionary discussions and life for two months, and then he will head for Sapporo.

Sayonara!

Belated Christmas greetings...

I'm going to do my best to get you all caught up on our Christmas prose and happenings. I have had the poem done for a while, but we have lacked the pictures to go along with it...well, here's the poem, and I'll work on getting some pictures to accompany it later! (Bill)

Happy Holidays, 2007, from the Lawlers (and Kearls and Medinas)

Like many of you, our family is growing in number and size,
No- Robbie didn’t give birth, but our children are joining in marital ties.
It’s not quite as expensive as having a child of your own,
And after the wedding, you get a new ‘in-law’ fully grown.

Cristina Kay is now a rhyming Cristina Medina thanks to new hubbie Juan,
Last January 6th they tied the knot the entire day was filled with love and fun.
First came the vows, done in English and Spanish, and then Cristina hugged all in sight.
The reception was rockin’ with great food, even a mariachi band and dancing all night!

Speaking of rockin’ our Robbie is as busy as ever and a happy Grandma of one to boot,
She’s a VP at Persogenics helping people communicate better and actually give a hoot.
She’s also working with a group of ladies to do seminars to women of varied age,
She’s also teaching a dating class in Sunday School to BYU students, acting as their sage.

Bill is loving life and finished 4 triathlons last year, 3 he did okay but one kind of lame,
His tennis league Utah finals got soured by injuries sustained at a BYU Frisbee game.
He’s still having fun adjusting the spines of lots of families from the tiny to the tall,
And at BYU in a LDS single’s ward bishopric, he is simply having a ball.

At Thanksgiving in Greensboro, we hung out with Becca, Jamey, and Eli which was cool.
They have a great new fixer upper home with a yard, lots of trees and even a pool.
Wes and Celynne live in a home at the Vineyard’s Chappaquiddick near the super rich,
Wes is now six years at the Shipyard and loves his ocean view and happy niche.

Matty keeps ‘a movin’ from summer in the Vineyard to Park City in the cold,
Still sculpturing in marble, busy with art, rock climbing and boarding with the bold.
Carrie is working hard at Salt Lake City’s new Cheesecake Factory restaurant all day,
Still a little bit of tennis and other fun pursuits she occasionally does have time to play.

Daniel graduated from high school and 5A Utah tennis doubles did take by storm,
Now at ‘mighty’ Southern Virginia University he plays tennis and survives his dorm.
He turns 19 in May, so his LDS missionary papers will go in pretty soon
He could go most anywhere in the world, we’re hoping Italy but it could be Rangoon!

That’s our year in review as we send our greetings to y’all.
We’d love to see you this year, and once Daniel’s gone, we’re having a free for all!
May the Spirit of the Holiday season bless you wherever you may roam,
And may you continue to have love and happiness in your life and in your home.

With Love,

The Lawlers
